Verbal Abuse And In-Fighting At TechCrunch
By DavidReece • Mar 15th, 2008 • Category: OpinionIt looks like the once informative and authoritive tech-news blog, Techcrunch is beginning to falter under the weight of it’s own ego, spiralling into school-yard bickering both within the ranks and with it’s supposed target audience of sillicon valley insiders.
Co-editor Michael Arrington, and Author Duncan Riley have been airing their petty insecurities on Twitter, which was first picked up by the sleeze peddling Valleywag (who clearly miss the irony) when they spotted Arringtons accidental Twitter linking to a Google ‘ego-search’ with the term…
“arrington asshole site:duncanriley.com”
Arrington quickly deleted the twitter, but when you have 8,659 followers, someone’s bound to pick it up, and it looks like the professional facade is beginning to crack. Arrington later posted a scathing review of Guy Kawasaki’s Alltop.com, calling it “A whole lot of nothing” before having second thoughts and pulling the article almost immediately. Kawasaki responded in a video interview, calling Arrington “a hypocrite”.
Duncan Riley clearly felt left out of all this bickering, and in an act of PR suicide, called valley marketeer Louis Gray..
“a condescending c**t and an uppity self important w**ker“
..in a recent (you guessed it) twitter post. His reason? This post disagreeing with Riley’s review of FriendFeed. This latest episode sums up everything I detest about what should be fittingly referred to as “sillyc*nt valley”. Stop embarrassing yourselves with this childish bickering, and get back to the kind of writing that got you where you are today.
Here’s a thought.. if you wouldn’t write it in a blog article, maybe you should think twice before writing it on twitter?
